Time For A Change

This is not a blog post I had planned to write, I still owe you 3 that I've pulled from my camera in the last couple of days, but today as I was driving I decided it was time for a change.  After running around all day running errands, which in Honduras ALWAYS takes all day, no matter how difficult it should be, we ran through McDonalds on the way home.  And as I was driving towards my home, where there was healthy food waiting if I was patient enough to get here, I looked in the back seat and saw my precious girl loving her chicken nuggets and sprite.  I am most definitely not opposed to the occasional trip to the fast food joint, but I do not want my child, or myself for that matter to be a fast food junkie.
And that's where we are folks, at this stage Rosie and I have become fast food junkies and it's time to put a stop to it.  I don't want my child, who is already predisposed genetically to being larger, to struggle her whole life with weight loss.  Been there, done that, still working out the kinks in my own body image.
So...why am I rambling on about this to all of you?  Because I want your ideas.  Meal times are work times for me usually which lends itself to fast food.  I want to start making meals ahead of time that I can freeze and pull out when I'm in a hurry.  I don't want to depend on processed food "Yuck".  But I also don't want to freeze out all the nutrients in good food.  I LOVE to cook, and I enjoy healthy food I just need to make it a priority in my life.
So what works for you?
I know you are busy, how do you incorporate healthy meals into quick time frames, without cooking all day or using a bunch of processed meals?
I would also love some juice/drink ideas for Rosie and myself to get us both away from soda. I drink a lot more than Rosie does, but the packaged juice boxes I give her aren't much better.
We've started exercising a lot more, which is great, but if we don't change what we're putting in our bodies than health is not going to follow.
I love to hear from you and I need your help.
So let me know what you think!
Love you guys!

Hey Amber, if I know I am going to be really busy during the day I usually will just put a meal into a crockpot. Here is a blog that has freezer recipes that she puts together early and are really easy to make: http://joelens.blogspot.com/2007/01/freezer-friendlymake-ahead.html
Here is another website of freezer recipes:
http://annies-eats.net/2011/03/28/stocking-the-freezer-make-ahead-meals/
And one more:http://www.aturtleslifeforme.com/2011/06/freezer-meals-on-cheap.html

Hope this helps. As far as juices go, my mom use to make us water with crystal light packages, it had less sugar than most juice boxes.

I was also thinking Crystal Lite. And if you like to have a drink with you in the car, you can get a big insulated thermos full of it, so that it stays cold all day. Also, for snacks they make little insulated thermos food jars (like this)

http://www.amazon.com/Foogo-Thermos-Leak-Proof-Food-Pink/dp/B000O3GCFU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1317835505&sr=8-2

and you can put healthy snacks like carrots or grapes or cheese in there and you won't have to worry about it sitting in your car all day and going bad.

I'm also a fan of freezing meals. Put soups in gallon ziplock bags and lay them flat in the freezer and they stack nicely. Also, any casserole like lasagna or poppyseed chicken or enchiladas freeze great. Buy some extra pyrex pans for that purpose, and you're set. If you use disposable pans, line them with parchment paper so that the food doesn't end up tasting metallic. Also, crock pot meals are great. AND if you get those little pyrex or glass pans, you can freeze individual portions of already cooked meals, and take them out and warm them up later.

ANOTHER tip (after having Goo, I made a big effort of meal planning AND weight loss, AND budgeting (which means not eating out as much) so I've been through this recently as well) When I was losing weight I downloaded the Lose It app on my iPhone, where I could look up the calorie content of tons of restaurants on the fly. If you don't have an iPhone, you can find the information online, and then if you do have to do fast food, you can know the best possible choices at your favorite fast food places, so that even if you need to make a quick meal sometime, you can at least make the choice with the fewest calories. Wendy's has quite a few great options. Their chili, baked potatoes, and go-wraps are my go-to items.

Good luck!!!
